College Winter Break: January 14-20, 2009

Green Monkey Eco-Tours is again this year offering students on Winter Recess an unforgettable week in Nicaragua.

We have added two new areas of interest - San Juan del Sur ( Pacific Coast surfing community, and research site of Oliver Ridley Sea Turtle) and Isletas of Granada - (365 islands in Lake Nicaragua, home to many native birds and nesting sites). Again we will have opportunities to hike waterfalls, volcanoes, visit the Ometepe Biological Station and Talapia Farm, and participate in the indigenous peoples community activities.

While in Granada you will observe the Spanish Colonial architecture and learn the historical background of this city while touring in a horse drawn buggy. Granada offers you a diverse choice of restaurants from native cuisine to the most popular ethnic foods. You will be part of a diverse group of travelers at this time of year, as many tourists come to Granada when visiting Nicaragua.

Ometepe Island is where you will arrive after a one hour ferry ride from San Jorge to see the indigenous farming communities harvesting coffee, plantains,watermelons, sesame seed and other products.  Here you will engage in the native culture and be surrounded with natural beauty and eco- wonders.  Ometepe is home to cloud forests and mineral springs as well as archaeological petroglyphs and unique wildlife. 

We hope to expose you to some "once in a life time" memories that you can share with others who are interested in experiencing a new awareness and appreciation of people and nature.

Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in Managua, tour Granada (Picture on the right is your first and second night accomodations at the Colonial Inn in Granada)
Day 2 Spend a day in Granada Cathedral Buggy Tour of Historical Districts San Francisco Convent Church Tour Educational Tour of Cigar manufacturing and Tobacco harvesting process Isletas Island Tours
Day 3 Tour San Juan Sea Turtle Refugee at La Flor Beaching Surfing and Canopy Tour Accommodations in San Juan
Day 4 through Day 5 Take ferry to Ometepe Island tours can include: Hiking a Volcano Money Museum Tobacco Farm Mineral Spring Waterfall Hike Black sand beaches Accommodations in Ometepe
Day 6 Limited island activities and  ferry back to the mainland Stops at - Masaya Volcano and Masaya Market Apoyo Lagoon Return to Best Western at Managua Airport
