OJO DE AGUA - OMETEPE - NICARAGUA |
Ojo de Agua, located a 15 minute walk down the dirt road from Villa Paraiso, then another 10 minutes up a trail through cattle ranch and banana field. The Ojo de Agua complex consists of three large concrete-reenforced swimming pools fed by a natural cold spring and well endowed with tall shady foliage. |

The San Ramón Waterfall |
This waterfall is located at the southern slope of the Maderas Volcano on the island of Ometepe, about 4 kilometers from the small village of San Ramón. The high, natural waterfall can be reached after a nice hike, ascending the forested foot of the impressive volcano.
There are several starting points, but the best access is probably from the Biological Field Station, located at the border of the village of San Ramón.
There is a path that leads not only to the San Ramón waterfall, but also to the top of the Maderas Volcano. Nature is in abundance along this trail, and there are many animals that can be seen on the way to the waterfall. Howler monkeys live in this area and are not unlikely to be seen. By being alert and lucky, different types of snakes can also be seen, including boas. Other animals that can be seen include a wide variety of bird species, as well as insects and even bats |

| Sea turtle arrivals at La Flor (Pacific Coast) |

Each year between July and December, hundreds of thousands of rare sea turtles visit Nicaragua to lay millions of eggs along the country's coasts. Nicaragua, a country abundant in nature and adventure, is one of only four countries believed to experience turtle hatchings of such large proportions
Between the months of July and January, La Flor is visited by an average of 3,000 Paslama Turtles as well as several Parrot Turtles, the largest and most threatened of all marine turtles. Visitors interested in witnessing this exciting phenomenon can reach La Flor from Managua in less than 45 minutes, enter the park for a small fee and enjoy plenty of beach. La Flor is currently being managed by Fundacion Cocibolca, a local NGO that is attempting to educate local communities.

There are two popular hikes on the mountain:
- First a fairly easy walk up the west side of the volcano through farm land and then cloud forest ending at a spectacular mountain cascade of more than 40 meters. Average hiking time varies from 1-3 hours up and 1-2 hours down depending on starting point.
- The second option is a summit hike that is muddy and trying, but less physical than the ascent of Concepción. Normal climbing time is 3-5 hours with a 2-4 hour descent. At the summit is a misty, ice cold crater lake.

Concepción Volcano - is in the province of Rivas and located in the western part of massive Lake Nicaragua on the Island of Ometepe. At 1,610 meters above sea level Concepción Volcano is Nicaragua's second highest volcano and many believe the most beautiful in Nicaragua. The volcano slopes are a nature reserve, home to deer and monkeys, as well as numerous legends. Concepción last big lava flow was in 1957, but ash and smoke eruptions occurred as recently as 1999. |

Situated less than 30 km from the country's international airport, Granada is an excellent starting point for visiting some of the Nicaragua's main attractions. These attractions include viewing some of the active volcanoes in the area, enjoying a visit to a cloud forest ecosystem – something somewhat unique to the area – or enjoying some of the many beaches lapped by the Pacific Ocean. You can also take in the natural beauty of Lake Cocibolca or spend time amongst nature enjoy natural wonders such as the annual sea turtle egg-laying - Granada is at the center of it all! |
